I want to hear from the folks of Bay St Louis Ward 6. Send me your top 3 concerns for your home, street, neighborhood... your town. My number is 985-789-2214 and email is tamicurtisguy@gmail.com
Through the past year, I have been seeking God’s will on a very important decision. Through those prayers, the encouragement of my husband Perry, and seeking out wise council, I have decided to run for Councilwoman for Ward 6 in Bay St Louis, MS .
We moved our businesses and home here in 2018 from New Orleans.
The Tami Curtis Gallery and Studio located in The Shops of Century Hall along with our company ThePainterAndPoet.com.
Through doors God opened for me in BSL, I was able to start volunteering under the jail ministry forged by First Baptist Church Bay Saint Louis with pastor Brett Frazier and now Derek Fortenberry, both who have been amazing council for me. Through art teamed up with a focus on God’s word while serving in Hancock County Jail, I made a friendship with Diane Bennett and Barbara Bostick Ambrose who spearhead Magdalene House and Gulf Coast Christian Women's Job Corp, of which I serve on the board. Before I moved to BSL, I served as a jail ministry volunteer with Church of the King in New Orleans. This has been a journey that has taught me so much more than I could ever have imagined…. And put me in contact with incredible people as well.
Along with that, I have also had the honor of serving on the board of The Arts, Hancock County, MS. Being a full time artist with a gallery business, I know what the artists bring to the The City of Bay Saint Louis, and this aspect is one of the main characteristics that makes BSL “A Place Apart”. It is one of the vital life components that allow the city to thrive even during the hardest of economic times.
In October of 2021, I started on my own seeking out resources to raised our house after it flooded twice within ten months. Through that arduous journey, I located the Swift Current Initiative Grant with FEMA.
This journey is what really opened my eyes as to what is available to the city, but had never been pursued. Then after pushing my way through for a total of three years, ours was the first home in all of MS to be awarded the grant to raise our house. I also helped April Byrd of Ward 6 secure her grant as well. If you want to see the “meat of the journey” you can follow my page Good News For Bay St Louis .
Now, a path has been fleshed out, for other people in our area to have the hope of receiving this grant. But in all honesty, it took a full-blown three-year commitment and battle on my part. A lot of the hoops I had to jump through could have been avoided with a better focus by certain city officials in Bay St. Louis. This made me realize that I could offer a better way and a stronger voice for the citizens of Ward 6.
I feel my journey through all of this as a citizen makes me more than experienced to step in to be a stronger voice for the folks of Ward 6 of Bat St Louis MS.
All issues will be of sincere importance to me, and raising folks out of harms way from flooding will be on the front of my radar. You see, with these grants, the city or county have to step in as the sub applicant. I finally pushed through the fears and barriers of the city and state to secure my grant, but with the opportunity to serve as your council woman, I can do so much more for the folks who will be my constituents.
Better informed… better maintained services…. a better Ward 6 !
I have a servant’s heart… I am asking for your support and vote.
All the best and blessings to all of you, Tami Curtis Guy
